This is my first serious attempt at a piano concerto. The work is in the traditional three movement form, with the first and third movements utilizing the same theme as first theme. However, they are developed in different ways. The concerto is unnusual in that the movements are devided into slow, fast and slow-fast. The first movement starts with a dark introduction played by the full orchestra, followed by the entrance of the soloist, which takes the form of a short cadenza. The movement ends with a bassoon solo. The middle movement was inspired by a Chinese concerto for two percussionists, and the last movement starts the same way as the first, but moves in another direction, eventually evolving into a jubilant theme first stated by the solo piano accompanied by pizzicato strings, which leads to the climax of the work.
