Yeah I use my thumb. It's hard to do and keep it sounding full but keep working on it. Mayer also uses his thumb a lot.

Most the player i know use the thumb including me. once u learn it ull be able to play so much stuff alot faster and ezer.

Whats the best fingering for the the D when the A string on second fret as the bass string in the intro and chorus. Do you just curl your thumb over the top, or do you change your fingering?
